Airfairs - Discount Airfares Online

Finding the best discount airfares online is not always as easy as it sounds. Many people simply go to one website to see what the best airfare they can find is, or they get in touch with their travel agent to see how will they can do. The problem with going to a travel agent for an airfare is that in the late 1990s the airlines stopped allowing travel agents to get a $10 discount on tickets. This caused the travel agents to pad their prices by about $10, and they generally use methods of finding airfare that are available to the general public. When I search for airfare, as I do fly on a regular basis, here is the method I use.

The first thing that I do when I searched for a discount airfare online is to go to one of the many discount travel websites that are out there, such as Expedia or Travelocity. These websites will search for airfare for the airports that you select, as well as nearby airports if you so desire, and give you a list of available flights on that day sorted by price. You can even choose such options as whether to allow it to give you a direct flight, or allow one or multiple layovers in order to reduce your fare. After you find out what the travel website is willing to offer, then try going directly to the airline in order to see what kind of fare they will give you. I am often pleasantly surprised that I am able to save some money on a fair directly from the airline.
